I want to thank God for the teaching on The Kingdom of God and the encouragement to meditate on the Scriptures at Petra Church.
I have been practising how to be led by the voice of God and also the meditation of the Word as prescribed in Joshua 1:8 but did not really connect it with the kingdom of God living, as Ps John Koe preached it for the past 18 months, until now.
In 2015, I experienced a blessing of having my apartment being en-bloc when the property prices was on a down trend.
Logically the property market was going to go down further so I should wait before finding a replacement but I decided to “ask” the Lord and I did not hear anything!
I viewed quite a number of possible properties just in case I find a good replacement but it was not easy to find the right one and I could clearly see that it was a “buyer’s market”, meaning the price was still going down. So I thought I would just hold off on the search but decided to “ask God” to double-check on my decision.
While in prayer asking God if I should buy or wait, I sensed that the Lord said “can buy”. I take it to mean it is ok not to buy also, so I was happy not having to stress out about finding replacement property. However, the next few days I kept getting a nudge on the inside with the thought “can buy”, “can buy”.
Every time I was nudged, I immediately thought of a scripture that I had meditated on over 20 years ago when I first started reading the bible more seriously. The scripture was Deuteronomy 30:19 – This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live.
In this scripture, God gives us the freedom to choose life or death but proceeded to tell us to choose life. It is like being given a multiple choice question but also being signalled the preferred answer! It is like God wanting us to choose the right answer without forcing it on us which He could have done so with only one option. I remembered thinking “that” some 20 years ago!
Back to that afternoon in prayer when I was “nudged”; “can buy”, “can buy”, I took it that God actually wants me to buy the replacement property and not wait.
So I decided to revisit the many properties I had been viewing and was drawn to one that seemed ok and was still available after more than 15 months since I first viewed it. The property is 20% larger than the previous one and 40% lower in price and I decided to buy it in April 2016!
The next 12 months, all 7 transactions following mine were at lower prices, just as my logic had suggested and stayed low for another 6 months.
But “suddenly” in Nov 2017 the Singapore property market seemed to have caught a bug and began to attract buyers and by April 2018 the latest transaction in my building was 20% above my cost! There is no way I could have foreseen this turn of events!
I am very thankful to God for this blessing but more importantly for the encouragement to meditate on His Word so that it will help Him to guide me from the inside.
I am sharing this to encourage us to participate in the bible meditation that Petra is doing as a church and don’t underestimate what God can use the Word that has been implanted in us.
